“What Jesus Does for Sinners”
John 8: 1-11

“Dad, Johnnies eating my cookie! Dad, Johnnies eating roach bait!” Now those are two vastly different kinds of tattling or gossip. In the first, older sister might be trying to get her little brother in trouble. In the second illustration, she may be trying to save his life. I don’t know how young a child has to be for tattling to become a way to cope, but it occurs earlier than we think.

“What Must I Do To Be Saved?”
Acts 16:16-34

“I guess that means that I’m going there,” is what this 79 year-old grieving sister said to me as she gestured “thumbs down,” indicating the place of Hell. I knew right then that I needed to say something in the few minutes remaining before the start of her sister’s funeral service. I had just had a brief conversation with this woman and expressed to her our sorrow for her loss. The conversation had taken an unexpected turn as we discussed how the two sisters had grown up in a large central Illinois family of eleven children. I then had interjected, “And did you all go to church together?” She shocked me by saying that they had never gone to church...ever
