Morning service

“Everybody is a Somebody!”
James 2:1-10

One of the most popular sitcoms of the eighties and early nineties was NBC’s Cheers. Its 273 episodes ran over eleven seasons! Each show the characters were warmly greeted when they entered this Boston bar. Their friends made a place for them and asked about their day. Doubts, fears, failures, successes, hates and loves were shared. It was something of an experience in group therapy for the price of a drink. And millions tuned in each week to vicariously experience belonging.

Evening service

"Words That Bless"
James 3:1-12

Sometimes a single utterance is sufficient to effectively communicate something. A toddler exclaims, "No!" In baseball, the umpire clearly makes his decision known with one word, "Out!" or "Safe!" The judge's verdict is unmistakable with the word, "Guilty!" The politicians rally around single words like, "Change" or "Trust." Even the church gets in on the one word utterance with the worship affirmation, "Amen!"
